Harapan completed his M.D. from the School of Medicine, Universitas Syiah Kuala, Indonesia, in 2011. He then pursued a Master’s in Infectious Diseases (M.Infect.Dis) and a Ph.D. at the School of Biomedical Sciences, The University of Western Australia. His Ph.D. research focused on the molecular epidemiology and public health investigations of major arboviruses in Indonesia, including dengue, chikungunya, and Zika viruses. He also earned a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (D.T.M.&H.) from the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok. Harapan has published more than 190 scientific articles in reputable international journals. In 2024, he was awarded the prestigious Bakrie Award XX, and in 2023, he was awarded as the Indonesian Best Scientist Under 40 Years based on the SINTA score. He is the World’s Top 2% Scientist since 2021. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Narra J and as an editor for BMC Public Health, PLoS ONE, Medicina, and Reviews in Medical Virology. Additionally, he reviews for several prestigious journals, including PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, Scientific Reports (Nature group), BMC Infectious Diseases, BMJ Open, Expert Review of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, Future Virology, and the Asia Pacific Journal of Public Health, among others. Harapan is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society for Virology, American Society for Microbiology, The American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and the Australian Society for Microbiology. His research interests encompass public health and the molecular biology of tropical diseases. Currently, he is involved in COVID-19-related research projects in Indonesia and leads the vaccine hesistancy projects in Indonesia.
