I have been a faculty member of the Chemical Engineering Department at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) since 1992. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Surabaya, and completed my PhD at the School of Chemical Engineering, University of Birmingham (UK) in 1998. In addition to my academic qualifications, I hold the Indonesian Professional Engineering credential and the highest professional rank of Insinyur Profesional Utama (Principal Professional Engineer).
My research interests focus on catalyst development and reaction engineering for the direct conversion of oily biomass—such as palm fruit and algae—into biodiesel. I also work on monolithic multiphase reactors, biomass utilization, and the application of microwave technology in chemical reactions.
Beyond research, I have been actively involved in higher education quality assurance, serving as a board member of the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education from 2006 to 2012 and Head of the Office of Education Development and Quality Assurance at USK (2016–2018).
Throughout my academic career, I have held several leadership positions, including Head of the Chemical Engineering Department (2004–2008), Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (2009–2013), Vice Rector for Academic Affairs (2018–2022), and Rector of Universitas Syiah Kuala (2022–2026).
