Munawar is an Associate Professor of Applied Statistics in the Department of Statistics and has served as Vice Dean for Resources and Finance in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Syiah Kuala in Banda Aceh since 2026. He has worked for various institutions, government agencies, and companies, including Unilever Indonesia and UNIFEM (now UN Women), where he held several positions.
He completed his PhD in Research Methodology (now Research Methodology and Data Analytics) in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus, Thailand. His doctoral advisors were Assoc. Prof. Dr Rhysa McNeil, Assoc. Prof. Dr Rohana Jani and Prof. Dr Don McNeil.
Munawar was an Aceh Government scholar and holds a master's degree in Applied Statistics from the Faculty of Economics and Administration, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He obtained his B.Sc. in Mathematics from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Syiah Kuala.
Research interests: Biostatistics, Demography, Econometrics, and statistical methods. As a statistics trainer, he works with r and statistical the package like SPSS, SAS, S-Plus, Minitab, E-view, etc.
