Nazaruddin was born in Blangkire (Aceh Besar) on June 21, 1970. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), Surabaya (1995). In 2001, he completed his Master's degree in Biochemistry from Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bandung Institute of Technology in Bandung. He is currently a PhD student at School of Biosciences and Biotechnology, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). His research interests are in the field Biotechnology and Molecular Biology. In 1997 until now, he was appointed as a lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh.
