Rida Safuan Selian, born in a conflict-ridden area of ??Aceh province, precisely in the city of Langsa, East Aceh district on October 7, 1976. The fourth child of seven siblings from  Drh. Rabidun Selian ( Alasness) and Sofiah, S.BA ( Gayoness). Since 1992 began to occupy the fine arts and crafts field by entering Senior High School of Crafts Industry Banda Aceh and graduated in 1995.

In the same year, he continued his Bachelor Degree in Education Program of Arts and Crafts Institute of Teacher Training and Education which is now State University of Yogyakarta and graduated in December 2000. In 2001 worked as honorarium teacher in Crafts Industry Secondary School and also taught as a honorarium lecture in Art, drama, dance and Music (Sendratasik) departement of Teacher Training and Education faculty of  Syiah Kuala University  Banda Aceh.

In 2002 he was appointed as a permanent civil servant and lecturer in Art, drama, dance and Music (Sendratasik) departement of Teacher Training and Education faculty of  Syiah Kuala University  Banda Aceh. Rida Safuan Selian is one of thousands of Acehnese people who felt the devastation of earthquake and tsunami on December 26, 2004. In 2005 Rida Safuan Selian continued his study (S2) that concentrated in Art Education at  Semarang University and graduated in 2007. Then  in 2012  he continued his doctoral  (Ph.D) that concentrated in arts education at Sultan Idris educational University of Malaya and graduated in 2015.

Beside teaching he also active in research activities related to traditional arts in Aceh Province and surrounding areas. He  also active in upgrading and counseling to school teachers in the Aceh Province in fine arts and crafts field.
