Syakur received the Bachelor degree in soil science from Faculty of Agriculture Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh, Indonesia, and he completed his Master study in soil and water management from Brawijaya University (UB), Malang, Indonesia. He finished his doctoral degree from Humboldt University of Berlin, Berlin Germany in 2010. He has been serving as secretary at Study Program of Land Resources Conservation, Graduate School of Syiah Kuala University from 2012 to 2016 and from 2016 - 2020 appointed as Coordinator of the study program. His teaching duties include principles of soil science, soil fertility and plant nutrition, land resources conservation, watershed management, irrigation and drainage, agricultural land management, and soil physics. His current research interests focuses on plant nutrition, soil conservation and reclamation, soil and water management with particular interest in agricultural land. He is a professional organisation member of Indonesian Soil Science Association and Indonesian Soil and Water Conservation Society.
