I am interesting in termite taxonomy and biogeography.  The wood-feeding Nasutitermitinae from the Island of Sumatra and adjacent islands are taxonomically revised during my PhD program in Kagoshima University (Japan).  Seven genera and 61 species are recognized for soldiers and workers.  Thirty-five species have been recorded from Sumatra in the previous studies. However, among them 19 species were not collected in the present survey. On the other hand, 17 species are newly added to the fauna of Sumatra in the present study.  Twenty-eight species are considered new to science.  The total number of the Sumatran species, thus, is currently 80 in 7 genera.  B. subulatus is a species endemic to Sumatra, and two new species of Nasutitermes,  N. sp. E and  N. sp. F, have been found only from Siberut Island of the Mentawai group. A strong affinity in species composition is recognized between Sumatra and Malay Peninsula, and also Java, while Borneo has a rather different fauna from those of the three mentioned above. Nineteen species of termite were collected  from the Krakataus, whose biota was completely destroyed by the great eruption in 1883.  All the species collected were wood-feeders. Only four species belong to Nasutitermitinae; two wide-ranging species, N. matangensis and N. havilandi, were dominant on all the islets.  Barcoding would be one of the most important methods for my future carrier in termite taxonomy. Especially to describe a number of new species those have been collecting from Indonesian archipelagoes.  Combination between morphological and molecular characters would be resolved a number of problems in taxonomic revision and to reconstruct termite phylogeny. Only four species belong to Nasutitermitinae; two wide-ranging species, N. matangensis and N. havilandi, were dominant on all the islets.  Barcoding would be one of the most important methods for my future carrier in termite taxonomy.
