I am a Professor in Computer Science at Universitas Syiah Kuala. I completed my Ph.D. in Computer Science from North Dakota State University USA in 2006 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. William Perrizo and finished a Master's degree in Computer Science from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Australia in 2000. I had been a Senior Software Engineer at Ask.com, one of the U.S. core search engine companies, developing algorithms and implementing efficient production-level programs to improve web search results. I was involved in developing utilities for usage mining and query understanding using Natural Language Processing (NLP).  My research interests are in Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, Web and Text Mining, Information Retrieval, and Information Extraction related topics which include acronyms extraction, web classification, social media mining, processing, and analyzing a large set of digital data. I have developed algorithms to automatically extract tropical diseases information reported on Indonesian online news articles and developed a repository of tropical disease incidents. I have also successfully developed algorithms to automatically determine the pairs of acronyms and expansions in the Indonesian language and developed what so-called IndoAcro, the Indonesian Acronyms and Expansions Repository. The acronyms and expansions are determined automatically using machine learning algorithms and to expedite the process, Hadoop big data technology was utilized.
