Professor Yusni is a scholar and researcher in Medical & Applied Physiology, with particular expertise in Endocrine & Metabolic Physiology and Exercise Physiology. Her academic and research work focuses on understanding physiological responses and adaptations to physical activity and exercise and their implications for human health and physical performance. A major area of research is Cardiometabolic Health, including obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and related metabolic disorders. Her work examines how physical activity and exercise influence cardiovascular, metabolic, hormonal, and physiological functions and how this knowledge can be translated into health promotion, disease prevention, physical performance, and the management of cardiometabolic conditions. Professor Yusni obtained a doctoral degree in Medical Sciences from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung, Indonesia.
Her research activities encompass exercise physiology, physical fitness, blood pressure regulation, obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, cardiometabolic risk, nutrition, functional foods, and physiological responses in athletes and physically active populations. Her research has employed experimental, clinical, and applied approaches, with multidisciplinary connections across medicine, physiology, exercise and sports science, nutrition, and health. Her scholarly publications include research articles in international peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus, covering journals across Q1–Q4 quartiles, as well as nationally indexed scientific journals. Research topics have included physical fitness and anthropometry, blood pressure regulation, exercise-induced metabolic responses, coffee and functional foods, bone health, and sports health.
Professor Yusni has an extensive record of research projects and competitive research funding supported by Indonesian government institutions, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, as well as university and other research funding sources. These research activities have involved multidisciplinary collaboration in medicine, physiology, exercise and sports science, nutrition, and health. Her scholarly contributions also include academic textbooks and reference books addressing vasoactive substances and blood pressure regulation, metabolic syndrome and herbal medicine, sports injuries, and cardiac arrest and basic life support in athletes.
Her international academic experience includes a Short Course in Exercise Physiology at the University of Sydney, Australia, in 2008. She also participated in the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) SPIRIT project, “Sport and Physical Education as a Vehicle for Inclusion and Recognition in India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka,” at Universitas Syiah Kuala from 2021 to 2024. As a member of the Erasmus+ SPIRIT team, she participated in academic and institutional activities involving partner institutions in Spain, Cyprus, and India, including institutional visits, technical training, international conferences, project meetings, annual reporting activities, and capacity-building programs. These international engagements have contributed to academic networking and collaboration in sport, physical activity, health, medical education, and higher education development.
Professor Yusni’s international academic engagement also includes participation as a keynote speaker and scientific presenter. In 2024, she served as a keynote speaker at the SPIRIT Summer Course on “Hypertension and Exercise: A Comprehensive Guide to Managing Blood Pressure.” Her research has also been presented at international scientific conferences, alongside participation in international academic training and scientific programs.
Academic governance and professional service form an important part of her academic career. Professor Yusni served as Secretary of the USK Senate in 2022 and has held leadership positions in professional physiology organizations in Aceh, including serving as Chair of the Ikatan Ahli Ilmu Faal Indonesia (IAIFI), Aceh Branch, and Chair of the Perhimpunan Ahli Ilmu Faal Indonesia, Aceh Branch. Since 2026, she has served on the Central Board of the Perhimpunan Ahli Ilmu Faal Indonesia as a member of the Board of Trustees and Ethics Council for the 2026–2031 term.
Her academic service also includes peer review for international journals indexed in Scopus in the fields of biomedical sciences, physiology, nutrition, public health, sports science, and health services. Her reviewer experience includes Biomedical Reports, High Blood Pressure, Scientific Reports, Sport Sciences for Health, European Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, BMJ Open, Journal of Public Health Research, Journal of Nutritional Science, British Journal of Nutrition, BMC Women’s Health, Frontiers in Health Services, Frontiers in Nutrition, and International Journal of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics (JOSE), among other international peer-reviewed journals.
Professor Yusni is actively involved in doctoral education, supervision, examination, and academic mentorship. Her doctoral supervision includes serving as Principal Promotor for Yulia Fitri in the Doctoral Program in Medicine at Universitas Syiah Kuala and as Promotor for Adytia Chanda in the Doctoral Program in Medical and Health Sciences at Universitas Syiah Kuala. Her academic examination responsibilities include serving as a doctoral examiner for Elman Boy and Maya Savira in the Doctoral Program in Medical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara. These activities reflect her continuing commitment to developing researchers and strengthening academic capacity in medical, biomedical, and health sciences.
Her academic and professional contributions have been recognized through several national awards and honors. These include the Satyalancana Karya Satya 10 Tahun, awarded by the President of the Republic of Indonesia in 2016, and the Satyalancana Karya Satya 20 Tahun, awarded in 2022. Professor Yusni has also received recognition for scientific presentation, including a Best Presenter Award at the IAIFI Symposium in November 2009 and the First Best Presenter Award at an international conference organized by the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Syiah Kuala, in 2022.
Her scholarly contributions include academic textbooks and reference books such as Zat Vasoaktif dan Regulasi Tekanan Darah: Pendekatan pada Bidang Fisiologi, Biomolekuler dan Latihan Fisik (2016), Mengatasi Sindrom Metabolik dengan Tanaman Herbal (2014), Cedera Olahraga (2019), and Henti Jantung dan Bantuan Hidup Dasar pada Atlet (2023). These publications reflect her broader academic interests in cardiovascular physiology, blood pressure regulation, metabolic health, exercise, sports health, and health-related education.
Professor Yusni’s current academic interests are directed toward strengthening multidisciplinary and international collaboration in Medical & Applied Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Endocrine & Metabolic Physiology, Cardiometabolic Health, and Sports Health. Her areas of potential collaboration include joint research projects, international publications, competitive grant proposals, doctoral education and co-supervision, academic mobility, scientific training, capacity-building programs, and multidisciplinary research involving medicine, health, exercise, nutrition, and sports science.
