I was born in Banda Aceh, Indonesia in 1971. I Completed my undergraduate study at the Mechanical Department of Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh in 1996. I joined the same department as a Teaching Staff and at the same time worked as a junior mechanical engineer with a local engineering consultant. In 2001, I went to the University Sains Malaysia to pursue my higher education and obtained a degree of M.Sc in mechanical engineering in 2004. In 2005, I was granted a "Monbukagakusho" scholarship from the Japanese government for a Doctoral Program and joined the Tribology Laboratory of Tohoku University in Japan. I conducted research on "brake creep groan", a low frequency stick-slip problem usually found in automatic transmission car, and obtained my Ph.D in 2009. After obtaining my Ph.D, I worked as a post doctoral research fellow at the Institute of Fluid Science of Tohoku University and The Nanointerface Engineering Laboratory, Graduate School of Engineering, Tohoku University in Japan. My research interests are on the topics of brake noises, frictional sound, surface texturing, tribological and dynamic behavior of soft material surfaces, and friction and wear of carbon-based coatings under the influence of palm methyl ester. Currently, I am an Associate Professor at Mechanical Engineering Department Syiah Kuala University.
